The Garden Beast

Toby waits for birds to fly over

I finally found him.  For weeks I'd been wondering where Toby disappears to when he goes outside.  Then the other afternoon I stepped into the backyard just as a flock of sparrows fluttered past.  They were on their way to the rose hedge behind the garden.  A fluffy beastie seemed to burst out of thin air and almost brought down one of the low flyers.
The magnificent beastie emerges from hiding
So that's where he's been--hiding in the feathery fronds of the asparagus patch.  I don't cut them down in the winter because in the past, bunnies sought shelter there.  I hope the rabbits found a new hiding spot since it's obviously no longer safe.
