It’s
carpet cleaning day! It ranks right up
there with vacuuming day on the cats’ Top Traumatic Events List. Nothing scatters the clowder
faster than
turning on a loud sucking machine.
We won’t see them for hours. I
need to remember this when I’m desperate for a little alone time.
Beware of the evil vacuum cleaner |
The quantity
of hair that cats shed is amazing—there's at least one whole cat worth every time I vacuum. We try to do a
head count afterwards to make sure we didn’t actually suck one up.
When
we move furniture for carpet cleaning, it’s a little like Christmas Day— dozens of
jingle balls and woolies and ponytail holders (the cats' #1 favorite item to
steal from me) show up. It's enough to keep them busy for a few days.
As
traumatic as all this noise is for them, we all rest a little better afterwards
breathing cleaner, sweeter smelling air that’s free of dust and cat hair and cat odors…at
least for an hour or two. It just goes
to show that what scares us is not always bad, sometimes it’s necessary—especially in a home with pets.
