Under Cover

Toby attacking the lump
The lump under the covers (Biff)
I really do know how to make a bed.  In fact, I'm a fanatic about making it every day, but if you randomly show up at our house, chances are it will look like I just tossed the bedspread over the crumpled sheets.  Of course the pets are to blame.  It started 24 years ago with our puppy Radar and has continued through a multitude of cats.
All our pets enjoy burrowing under bedcovers like moles.  A few climb up under the covers and sleep in an airless lump.  If they are discovered by another animal, a great battle ensues with a quilt barricade to limit visibility and harm.
The lump keeps moving
Some of our cats prefer to go under cover only during sheet changing time.  They lie on a sheetless bed waiting for a fresh sheet to flail over them like a ship's sail.  Once they are covered they slink from one corner of the bed to another in an effort to prevent corner tucking and top smoothing.  The result is a less-than-hotel-quality bed appearance.
This is all great fun until a  covered cat falls asleep in a flat position.  Chances are I'll unknowingly sit on him--leaving the cat "bent out of shape" figuratively and literally.
